Welcome to Southern Folk Finder Research Services!

As a professional genealogist, I can provide:

  • a consultation to help you determine a focused research goal
  • a custom research plan for your genealogy project
  • goal-centered research in a variety of sources
  • analysis of results and a final report with source citations
  • copies of documents

I can also provide the following upon request:

  • pedigree charts and family group charts
  • lecturing at your genealogical society’s or other interest group’s meeting

Do you have brick walls in your genealogy?  We all do!  Many of you would like to find your own ancestors, if only you had the time, money, or the skills to manage it all on your own.  Genealogy is a fun hobby, and we love the thrill of the hunt, but sometimes we don’t know where to turn next. Many records are not available online; the only way to find them is to visit the local repositories. Or, perhaps a federal record is what you need, but you have no idea how to get it or even what it might be. These situations can be confusing and frustrating!  Hiring a professional is often the most practical way to go; it can be cheaper and easier than the money you spend to research in person. Think of the time you have already spent at your computer, and combine that with the time it will take onsite to find the right repository, time your visit to match their hours, figure out their system, and maybe – just maybe – locate your records. Then add the money you will spend on flights, hotels, food, and fees. It can really add up!

My specialty is Alabama,  but I also conduct research in adjacent states as needed, especially if the ancestors lived near the Alabama state line.  Many of my clients’ ancestors migrated to Alabama from other places such as the Carolinas, or they left the area and went to Texas. If research leads me to an unfamiliar area, I may suggest another professional genealogist skilled in researching that location.
